Baptism Testimony (Zhihan Shi)

My life before Christ was very boring and directionless. I attended church and mission trips in the summer but still did not feel connected with God. I was often scared of death, and I would pray to God only when it was convenient to me. I was also very quick to anger and envious of other people.

I became serious about Christ after He allowed me to attend the World Changers mission trips over the summer. During these trips, I strengthened my relationship with Christ and saw firsthand His influence on those in need. God allowed me to meet many wonderful people on those trips who shared their guidance and wisdom with me. Christ showed me that his followers were kind-hearted people who helped those in need. I felt truly inspired by how much we were able to do because of Him. Some of the people we helped were Christians who prayed with us during meals and shared their stories of how they came to Christ. Others were not yet believers, but God guided us to convert them to Christianity. Seeing all that happen before my eyes caused me to sit down and think about my relationship with Christ. I decided that I had to change my ways to please and honor God.

After I decided to devote my life to God, I became more focused and optimistic. I still have constant struggles with being envious and quick to anger. Now, when these things happen, I will try my best to ask God for forgiveness. I believe that I will be able to overcome these problems as I further my relationship with Him. I realized that God had a path for me and that He was always watching over me. Whenever things weren’t going my way, I knew that it would eventually be fine. I learned to rely on God and not try to solve things only by myself. I felt my relationship with God growing, and I would pray to him more often. This has allowed me to improve my academics, since now I am no longer scared of failure or a bad grade. Instead, I realize that God will help me through my tough exams and that He will be there when I am at my lowest. Participating more in church and other church activities has also allowed me to make new friends from outside of my school.

I want to be baptized so I can solidify my relationship with God. Whenever I am doubting my relationship with God, I want to be able to remember the time I was baptized and realize I will follow Him forever. After baptism, I want to be more committed to this church and deepen my relationship with God and my brothers and sisters in Christ. I want to help the church by volunteering in things like VBS. I also want to help my brother come to know Christ better by letting him come to church and worship with me.
