Fruitfulness in Ministry

Growing up, we had a small yard with a couple of grapevines. Every winter, my grandpa would trim away most of the branches, leaving only a few main vines. The more he pruned, the richer the harvest the following year.

During His three years of earthly ministry, Jesus often used everyday images like this to reveal deeper spiritual truths. He said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) To remain in Him is to lean into His presence, listen to His voice, follow His lead, depend on His strength, and live by His Word. This call to abide is not only vital for our personal walk with Christ—it is the very foundation of fruitful ministry.

Five years ago, our student ministry—and the church as a whole—faced a series of unprecedented storms that ushered us into a difficult, yearlong winter. Youth Sunday school attendance dropped sharply, from the 60s to the 20s. It was clear that God was calling for our attention. In that season of shaking, one Scripture kept echoing in my heart: “…to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” (Jeremiah 1:10) God’s message was unmistakable: These disruptions were His way of pruning both our church and our student ministry.

Amid the storm, a group of youth parents humbled themselves before the Lord and repented. From that turning point onward, every Sunday, a faithful group of brothers and sisters—alongside our students—gathered with renewed focus on the Word of God, undeterred by the distractions around us.

What once appeared bare and heavily pruned has now blossomed into a season of abundant harvest. By God’s grace, the youth praise team has been rebuilt, baptisms have resumed, college Sunday school has launched, winter retreats have been revived, and the youth mission trip has been joyfully relaunched after the pandemic pause.

Each week is rich with connection and discipleship: Wednesdays for prayer meetings, Fridays for youth group, Saturdays for college fellowship, and Sundays for Sunday school and worship. Now, we serve over 180 students from 6th grade through college, supported by more than 35 dedicated volunteers. Since 2022, an average of twelve students have been baptized each year—a testament to life transformed.

As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of ACCCN, we count our blessings and give all glory to our almighty God. Truly, only God can accomplish what no human effort can. He alone brings life from pruning, and fruit from faithfulness.
