I am excited to share an incredible experience I had for my spiritual self this past summer. Just before VBS, I took a 3-week vacation to China, far away from my church family back home. Despite enjoying the delicious food, meeting relatives, and having fun moments, I couldn’t help but feel a part of my spiritual life was missing. I felt homesick, yet this time away made me deeply appreciate our church community even more.

Upon my return from China, I plunged into a week of Vacation Bible School. Despite a 12-hour jet lag and only four hours of sleep per night, I found myself full of energy. It felt as if God was guiding me, speaking through me, and filling me with so much joy. I had the privilege of working with some incredible kids along with amazing, dedicated counselors and leaders. I could feel God’s blessings all around us, and it was truly an unforgettable experience.

Before this transformative summer, my future seemed clouded and uncertain. I was lost in the mundane routine of school and extracurricular activities, detached from what genuinely brought me joy. Everyone said I used to be a happy, outgoing, and funny child but as I grew older, I became excessively concerned with how others perceived me and lost touch with my true self. But my time at VBS changed all that, shedding light on my path forward and unveiling that my true purpose lies in spreading God’s love to others.

This newfound joy continued into my internship at a center for speech therapy aimed at aiding children with special needs. There I felt that my God-given strengths could make a difference in the lives of these disadvantaged children. I could feel God calling me to dedicate my life to serve others for his glory.

As I reflect upon the events of this summer, I am filled with humility and gratitude for the profound miracles God has worked in my life. These experiences stand as a reminder that we should all seek our individual callings, our passions, and the things that light us up and glorify God. We cannot allow the world or anyone else to hold us back. Instead, we can trust in His plan and allow His love to guide us.
